I find it strange that Luke cooks fancy meals. Not only have we never seen
it, I seem to remember some arguments with Sookie where he was in favor of
"ordinary" food.

Why this revelation? It wasn't necessary for the L/L dinner - meatloaf
would have done just as well.

While thinking on this, a horrible thought occurred. Maybe this is a set up
for the plot twist from hell.

Richard succeeds in getting Luke to franchise the diner and Richard then
takes control from him (whether Luke is screwed financially is immaterial to
this plot). Luke then quits because being a figurehead for a franchise is
not what he wants.

Meanwhile Sookie has to stop cooking at the Dragonfly because of her
pregnancy.

Luke becomes the Dragonfly's new gourmet chef.

I thought of something similar while watching this episode, but with a
slight twist: Lorelai decides Sookie needs help because of the pregnancy
and arm-twists Luke into helping out at the Dragonfly. Luke's grumpy
because he doesn't want to do it, Sookie's grumpy because she doesn't
want someone in her kitchen who won't take orders from her, and the whole
thing erupts into a screaming match (and possibly a food fight) in the
kitchen. Lorelai tries to intervene and ends up with them both mad at
her; she comes close to losing both her best friend and her boyfriend.
Rory, Jackson, and Michel (and probably most of the rest of the town),
all of whom thought it was a bad idea from the beginning, get to say,
"I told you so."

Wow, you guys are good ! I hope this doesn't happen (as some sort of weak
mechanism of having L&L together more), and certainly nothing would kill
their relationship faster than that.

I think we might see Luke help out at the Dragonfly for an episode or
two when Sookie's pregnancy puts them in a bind, just to return the
favor of Lorelai and Rory helping to run the Diner while Luke was
dealing with his Uncle Louie's funeral arrangements in "Dead Uncles and
Vegetables." It would make a great A-story du jour. But I think any
permanent change in the staus quo along these lines ain't gonna happen.
It would be too obvious a shark-jumping moment if it were to be a
permanent change.

I'm even thinking that there's some hints over the past few episodes of
the potential for Lorelai and Sookie to have a falling out over Sookie's
gradually increasing focus on a family life at the expense of her
partnership in the Dragonfly, but even if that becomes the case, I don't
see Sookie quitting her chef's position at the Dragonfly. I would think
that what would happen is that Lorelai would diplomatically find some
way to buy Sookie out of her half of the inn - with the help of either
Luke or, storyline-permitting Emily and/or Richard. I don't think
Lorelai would ever let Sookie out of the partnership (no matter how fed
up Lorelai might get with Sookie's priorities) without making sure that
the Sookie continues to bring home a check, not with a second baby on
the way and Sookie having the better earning-potential over time than
Jackson. Heck, with the employee profit-sharing program, the benefits
Sookie would get just by working for Lorelai would probably be waaaaaay
better than what they'd get from Jackson's nevertheless respectable
produce business. So I don't see Luke ever taking over the chef's
position at the Dragonfly, except as a short-term favor.
