Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever.
by Sarah Warn
SHARP-DRESSED LESBIANS AT THE EMMYS
The Ellen-hosted Emmys last weekend drew its largest audience in
three years, and the lesbian couples--all two of them--came out in style.
[snip]
Alas, the eternally (and criminally) Emmy-snubbed Lauren Graham
(Gilmore Girls) did not attend with a female date, but she did spend a lot
of time talking with Cynthia Nixon afterwards, so I say it's just a matter
of time. (Because we all know fraternizing with a known lesbian-ish person
means you're one, too, and yes, I believe in the power of wishful...er,
positive thinking.)
Please note: the following rant is a result of me being just as tired
of the easily-dismissable Lauren-is-gay rumor as I am of the
just-as-easily-dismissable Lauren-and-Scott-hate-each-other rumor.
Nothing more, nothing less.
E!'s Kristin specifically said that a Gg star went to the Emmys with a
Buffy star -- Lauren was clearly captured in pictures from the Emmys
as being accompanied by Blucas. And yeah, the writer's statement that
"she did not attend with a female date" could be parsed as "she did
attend with a male date."
I followed the link to the AfterEllen page (as I did with the Marica
Cross rumor that originated at DataLounge) and then did a search on
the site for other articles about Graham and got just *two* more
links. And those were *both* links reporting on the progress of the
original Marcia-Cross-is-gay rumor and the accompanying,
long-dismissed rumor that
Marcia-Cross-is-gay-and-Lauren-Graham-is-her-lover.
Now, even if Danny Strong attended the Emmys with himself, I think
that K was pointing directly at Graham and Blucas. In retrospect
after most of her blind riddles are solved, K has never been exactly
unsubtle with her clues for any of her riddles. They're virtually
*always* the most obvious choices. (And she's *terrible* at being
evasive.)
As long as Gg has been on the air and as gorgeous as Graham is, if she
were really gay -- yes, not that there's anything wrong with that
(rolls eyes), geez, people, I'm a stage manager, this is just me
instinctively being protective of actors -- she'd have a *much*
longer track record, one extending all the way back through the
history of at least Gg than she does at well-known LGBT sites like
this one. Which, after all, has been around since 2002 (according to
its About page), and moreover, the few rumors about her wouldn't be
so-heavily based on the Marcia Cross rumor.
Instead, we've got plenty of pictures of Graham's actual dating life
with men -- Matthew Perry, Marc (Ack! Ptooie!) Blucas, a Seeing Other
People producer whose name escapes me at the moment, a guy not in the
business (according to K this past summer), among others. Her
supposedly closeted-gay dating life has pretty much been documented as
being the dating patterns of a very busy straight single gal whose sex
life hasn't been documented by the tabloids simply because *the
tabloids, like the Emmys, generally haven't been interested in her.*
Hell, the writer didn't even note that, for instance, that Graham has
been on Ellen's talk show *five* times (Probably because both Gg and
Ellen are WB-produced shows that shoot in Burbank, hence, corporate
synergy can't prove gayness.). Otherwise, I'm sure she would have
started spreading the rumor that Lauren was trying to break Ellen and
Portia up.
This is careless, baseless rumor-mongering. Sheesh. The writer
should just stick to trying to persuade actual closeted gays like
Jodie Foster or Sara Gilbert to finally out themselves rather than
innuendo-ize someone who clearly isn't gay.

LORELAI: In the movie, only boy hobbits travel to Mount
Doom, but that's only because the girls went to do something
even more dangerous.
GIRL: What?
LORELAI: Have you ever heard of a Brazilian Bikini Wax?
